Third Grade "F.Y.I."
*How many third
grade classes are in Windham Center School?
- There are nine third grade classes as of 2007.
*How many
students are in each third grade class?
- Class size varies from 19 to 23 students.
*Do you have
any homework in third grade?
- The basic policy for Windham Center School is 10 minutes
per grade level, so third grade has around 30 minutes of homework
per night.(Not on weekends!) The other kind of homework involves
long term projects which go with a special theme.
*Do you have
recess?
- There is a 20 minute recess prior to lunch. Because the weather varies, we ask that all students dress appropriately.
We try to go out for at least a few minutes every day.
*Do you have a
lunch room?
- We have a cafeteria, which is used for the lunch room and special
assemblies. We have a gymnasium with wooden floors for physical education.
*What specials
do you have?
*Do you have a
playground?
- Yes, there is a wood-chip section with a twirly slide, jungle gym, and space
trolley. There are also two sets of swings and slides, a large field for soccer,
baseball or football.
*Do you switch
classes?
- No. Teaching teams consist of two teachers. Sometimes the teams share story
time; sometimes they share art projects.

*Do you have
any field trips?
- Yes, we go to the Deerfield Fair and submit projects
for judging, we go to a play and sometimes the Audubon. Different
classes will occasionally take smaller individual field trips.
*Do third
graders have a chance to take part in special school-wide
activities?
- Yes, we have Destination Imagination which is an enrichment program. We
also have a Winter Concert and fund-raising programs to benefit the school,
bowling, and chess club.
