Fourth Grade "F.Y.I." • How many fourth grade classes are in Center School?
There are 11 fourth grade classes.
• How many students are in each fourth grade class?
Class size varies from around 23-25 students per class.
• Do you have homework in fourth grade?
Homework in fourth grade usually consists of assignments in language arts (reading, writing, spelling, grammar), math, social studies and science. Homework varies depending upon the areas within the curriculum being taught. Homework assignments consist of daily assignments as well as long term assignments and projects throughout the year.
• Do you have recess?
Recess in fourth grade has been scheduled to start at the end of each lunch period. Due to various weather conditions, we ask that all students are dressed appropriately for outdoor recess especially during the winter months.
• Do you have a lunch room?
The entire school uses the cafetorium for lunch and it is also the designated place for various special events and assemblies throughout the year.
• What specials do you have?
Each class participates in art, library skills, music, and physical education. Physical education classes meet twice per week. Each class is 45 minutes in length.
• Do you have a playground?
Yes, there is a wood chip section with swings, jungle gym, space trolley, and slides. There is also another set of swings on the hill. We have a baseball field and soccer/football fields. We have "four-square" games, and hopscotch on the blacktop.
• Do you switch classes?
Yes, most teaching teams consist of two teachers. Some of the teams switch for science and social studies.
• Do you have special projects?
Yes, throughout the year in all content areas.
• Do you have any field trips?
The 4th Grade has field trips to the State House, Christa McAuliffe Planetarium, and a school-wide trip to Canobie Lake Park.
