Fourth Grade "F.Y.I."


  • How many fourth grade classes are in Center School?
There are eight fourth grade classes.
  • How many students are in each fourth grade class?
Class size varies from around 23-25 students per class.
  • Do you have homework in fourth grade?
There are three different kinds of homework. One is completing daily work; another is a daily homework assignment that should not take more than half and hour. There are long term projects that necessitate homework.
  • Do you have recess?

The recess comes prior to lunch for the fourth grade. Due to various weather conditions, we ask that all students dress appropriately for an outdoor recess.

  • Do you have a lunch room?
The entire school uses the cafetorium for lunch from 11:05 to 12:15. The other times this room is used for assemblies and special events.
  • What specials do you have?
Each class participates in art, music, library skills world language and enrichment. Physical education classes meet twice a week. The activity periods are 45 minutes long.
  • Do you have a playground?
Yes, there is a wood chip section with swings, jungle gym, space trolley, and slides. There is also another set of swings on the hill. We have a baseball field and soccer/football fields. We have "four-square" games, and hopscotch on the blacktop.
  • Do you switch classes?
Yes, most teaching teams consist of two teachers. Some of the teams switch for science and social studies.
  • Do you have special projects?
Yes, throughout the year in all content areas.
  • Do you have any field trips?
Yes, the fourth grade goes to the State House, and to Strawberry Banke in the spring. Other field trips are sometimes scheduled.
