August 20, 2009 We are pleased to announce that Golden Brook School will host a Kindergarten bus ride and classroom visitation on Tuesday, September 1st for all incoming Kindergarten students. This event is designed to provide children with an opportunity to experience the school bus for the first time with a trusted adult. Students and parents will also meet homeroom teachers and become familiarized with the facility. All Kindergartners must be accompanied by a parent, and siblings are not permitted. In order to ensure that we have adequate space on our school buses, we ask that only one parent participate in the ride. Additional parents may drive to the school if they’d like to be present for the classroom visit. Please access the Windham School District Web Site for information regarding individual bus stop locations and times.

To the Windham Community,
It is with great pleasure that we welcome our very first kindergarten class to Golden Brook School! Preliminary online registration officially began on Monday, January 5th, and at this time we have enrolled 139 children for the 2009-2010 academic year! We anticipate a student to adult ratio of 8:1 with class sizes of approximately 15, but no more than 20. The primary years of a child’s education are critically important, and we are extremely proud of our talented staff and our comprehensive curriculum. We anticipate the addition of ten temporary classrooms to be located adjacent to Golden Brook School. The construction of a new driveway will ensure a safe mid-day, drop-off and pick-up of students, and the current proposed budget will enable the district to provide transportation one-way for all students. Our 2 ½ hour program will consist of two concurrent sessions, five days per week. The a.m. class will run from 8:30- 11:15, and the p.m. class from 12:15-3:00.
Golden Brook’s kindergarten curriculum has been aligned with the Windham School District’s elementary program and is designed to blend developmental theory with New Hampshire Grade Level Expectations. The Harcourt Brace Story Town Program will be utilized as we build a strong foundation for reading, writing and speaking. Students will develop number sense and practice counting, sorting, and classifying using the Everyday Mathematics Program. Science and Social Studies concepts will be woven into the daily curriculum and include studies of; climate, the sun and the moon, simple forces, tools, living and non-living things, community awareness, rules, and symbols of America. Music, dance, coloring, painting, and creative play will also serve to enhance the daily program.
Important Dates to Remember:
•Final Registration for incoming kindergarten students will take place on Wednesday, April 22 at Golden Brook School. •Golden Brook School will host its first Kindergarten Story hour for incoming students and their parents in early May (date to be determined). This special evening will be your child’s initial introduction to their new school and will include story telling and snacks. •Orientation for the parents of kindergarten students will take place on Thursday, May 14th from 7:00-8:30 p.m. •We’d also like to invite all incoming students and their families to join us on Thursday, May 21 for the annual PTA sponsored Ice Cream Social which will take place in the Golden Brook cafeteria from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
These evenings provide the perfect setting for relaxing, meeting other parents and members of the Golden Brook staff. We hope to see all of you there!
