"NO SCHOOL" ANNOUNCEMENT
October 19, 2007
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Frank Bass, wishes to remind all of the residents of the Windham School District of the "NO SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENT" procedures as we enter into the winter months. The decision to cancel school on a particular school day will usually be made by 6:00 a.m. in both districts. However, when appropriate, either or both districts may employ a delayed opening of ninety (90) minutes. The delay announcement will be made by 6:00 a.m. and if cancellation becomes appropriate that announcements will be made not later than 7:00 a.m.
For the convenience of the residents and students of the districts, school cancellations are made on several radio stations. Whereas snow conditions create a busy time for all community officials, calls should not be placed to the local police department; but rather, turn your radio dial to one of the following stations for the information needed.
WGIR 610AM WFEA 1370 AM WBZ 1030 AM WZID 95.7 FM
The following television stations are also notified:
WMUR Channel 9 WBZ Channel 4 WCVB Channel 5 WHDH Channel 7
NO SCHOOL/DELAY/EARLY RELEASE FOR SALEM HIGH STUDENTS
In the event of severely inclement weather or mechanical breakdown, school may be closed or the starting time delayed by 90 minutes. The same conditions may also necessitate early dismissal. If the school starting time is delayed, the regular time is moved up 90 minutes. (School lunch would be served as regularly scheduled). For example, if your child's bus usually arrives at 6:55 a.m., the bus will arrive at 8:25 a.m. The school start time will move to 9:00 a.m. School is rarely dismissed early, but in the event that an early dismissal is necessary, radio and television stations will be alerted as soon as possible. School closing, delayed starting time or early dismissal will be announced over radio and television stations:
Radio WBZ, AM 1030; WEEI, 590 AM; WCCM, 800 AM; WHDH, 850 AM; WLLH, 1400 AM; WNNW, 1110 AM; WGIR, 610 AM & 101 FM; WOKQ, 97.5 FM
Television WBZ-TV 4, WCVB-TV 5, WHDH-TV 7, WMUR-TV 9, SLC6 Reports in the morning will be between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. If no report is heard, it can be assumed that school will be in session. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL. Telephone lines must be kept open for emergencies.
Please note: If the Windham School District does not have school due to unsafe weather and road conditions, and Salem High School is in session, students who live in Windham and attend Salem High will not be penalized for being absent. There will be no bus transportation.
Exception: If Windham School District (Golden Brook, Center and Middle School) is closed due to a facility issue such as a lack of power, transportation to Salem High School will be provided for Windham students.
If the Windham School District has a delayed opening and Salem High School does not, the students in Windham will be picked up at the delayed opening time and brought to Salem High, but again they will not be penalized for being late.
