Dear Windham Parents:
This message is to inform
you about an increase in lunch prices that will go into effect at
the beginning of the new school year.
The Federal government
passed a law, the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, that
requires all school districts that participate in the National
School Lunch Program to gradually increase hot lunch prices over
time. The goal of this Federal legislation is to equalize the price
of a hot lunch with the amount of money the Federal government
reimburses
Districts for students who receive a free lunch.
The Windham
School District will have to increase hot lunch prices to $2.46 over
the next few years in $0.05 and $0.10 increments in order to remain
in compliance with this legislation.
The Windham School Board
moved to increase hot lunch prices by $0.10 per meal at Golden
Brook, Windham Center, and Windham Middle Schools for the following
school year.
The new lunch prices are as follows:
Golden
Brook School: $2.00
Windham Center School:
$2.00
Windham
Middle School: $2.10
Windham
High School: $2.50 (no change from
last year)
