From the Media Center!
As the media specialist I will oversee the development of informational opportunities for the students and staff of Windham High School. Working collaboratively with the other members of the Planning Team to develop the center, the library collection and electronic resources will be built to support the curriculum when the school opens in August, 2009. To meet the needs and expectations of the students, the library collection will be comprised of resources in multiple styles. There will be traditional materials, such as books and reference resources in standard paper formats. There will also be access to on-line and digital resources. The Media Center will be a vital component of Windham High School. Teachers and students will be encouraged to consider the library as an extension of the learning areas located in the academic wings of the building. There will be areas for quiet study. There will also be opportunities for small groups of students to have a convenient location for collaborative work. Knowledgeable staff will be available to assist all information seekers in obtaining the materials and answers to their needs. The library program will further develop students’ abilities to seek and use 21st century information, with lessons on correct citations, on-line catalog use, copyright law, and other information related to 21st century information. Individual assistance will also be available for those who need it. The Media Center will be a warm and inviting sanctuary for students to visit and enjoy. A variety of fiction materials in both traditional and digital formats will be available for students. Magazines and newspapers will entice students to relax as they stay informed. I enjoy my work as a media specialist. My enthusiasm for my profession will be reflected in the level and quality of media services that will be provided to all students and staff. I look forward to meeting and working with all of the students of Windham High School. Sincerely,
Kathleen Kirwin, Media Specialist
