Windham NH High School

Greetings from the Dean of Humanities!

This is a very exciting time for the Windham community and I am honored to be a part of this important endeavor.   As Dean of Humanities, I oversee the areas of English, Social Studies, and World Languages.  Over the past several weeks I, along with the other deans, have worked diligently to lay the foundation for an exemplary high school.  We have examined several quality high school programs throughout the country, reviewed best educational practices, and consulted with experts in the various fields of study.  In addition, we have carefully reflected on and considered the outstanding preliminary documents that were written by various community members.  We are grateful for all the hard work these individuals have done.

As I begin my work at Windham, I bring 20 years of teaching experience working at a variety of both public and private secondary schools across the state.  I am certified as a secondary school principal and, in addition, hold NH state teaching certification in the areas of Latin and English.  I am passionate about education and truly enjoy helping young people reach their full academic potential.   I view learning as a lifelong journey and as a teacher I am dedicated to helping  students acquire both a solid academic foundation as well as developing an enduring curiosity about the world around them.  Essentially, students who are well prepared to succeed in life beyond high school are those who understand what it is to be human and  to make  connections and find purpose and meaning to their world .

The Division of Humanities at Windham High School will offer many of the traditional liberal arts courses such as literature, modern and ancient languages, history, social sciences, and rhetoric. The content of all our humanities courses will be knowledge based and designed to challenge students through rigorous reading, writing, speaking, and thinking assignments.  Our interdisciplinary approach to instruction will encourage students to draw connections across the various disciplines, to develop critical thinking skills, and to foster intellectual independence, preparing them well for a purposeful life beyond high school.
