July 5, 2010

Welcome Grade 6 Students,

We, the Grade 6 Teachers, hope that you are having an enjoyable summer. As you move from Center to Middle School, there are many questions that students and parents have. We hope this letter will answer some of these questions and assist you in making a smooth transition to Windham Middle School.

School opens for all students on Wednesday, September 1st.  Upon arrival at school, students gather in the parking lot by the cafeteria and garage.  Traditionally, teachers will then guide the students into the gym.  After a brief welcome speech, teachers will escort the children to their homerooms.  Once there, students will receive an orientation and information to help you make a successful start to your school year.  PLEASE BE ADVISED OF THE SCHOOL HOURS.  HOMEROOM BEGINS PROMPTLY AT 7:40 am AND DISMISSAL IS AT 2:15 pm.

Students will be given locks for lockers on the first day of school. The school must issue all locks used on school lockers. No personal combination or key locks are allowed. All Grade 6 students will be required to use an agenda, which will be provided by the school.  On the back of this letter are suggested supply lists.  Any further information about materials needed will be shared with you, the students, on the first day of school by your homeroom teachers.

We hope that this letter has answered some of your questions, but, should additional questions arise, there are several other sources of information available to you.  The Windham Independent and the School District website both contain valuable information. If you are interested in trying out for a school team this year, it is especially important to check these resources for information dates and times. Many of the tryouts for the Fall Sports Teams occur in August and the dates and times will be announced in the Windham Independent as well as being posted on the Windham Middle School website.  You will receive information about other clubs and extra curricular activities at Windham Middle School during the first few weeks of school.  There will be an Open House Night held at Middle School for parents a few weeks after school begins.  Any further questions your parents still have may be answered at that time.

We are looking forward to an enjoyable and productive year with you as our students.  Please feel free to contact Windham Middle School at 893-2636 with any further questions you or your parents may have.

Sincerely,

The Sixth Grade Team

Windham Middle School

PS.....Your first assignment will be to share this letter with your parents. Good Luck!
