On December 4th, 2018 Superintendent Langlois awarded two high school seniors with the National School Development Council Award for Academic Growth in Student Leadership and Learning.  The two seniors chosen were Miss Hannah Pickett and Mr. Thomas Emrick.

Windham School District is affiliated with New England School Development Council (NESDC) which grants this award based on the high school student enrollment.  Windham School District was granted two awards to be handed out to high school seniors who have consistently pursued a high level of academic effort, and who have also served as positive role models for the student body.

Superintendent Langlois and Principal Stephen Sierpina chose to honor these two seniors with this prestigious award for their admirable characters and accomplishments.  Below are the bios of the Class of 2019 National School Development Council Award recipients. Hannah Pickett Hannah Pickett

She is currently ranked 5th out of 218 seniors and her cumulative GPA is a 4.28.   Hannah will receive all three New Hampshire State Scholar awards this year; core curriculum as well as Art, and STEM emphasis. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. Hannah has been a member of our choir program all four years and is a section leader.  She is also a member of our athletic community and will be the captain of the swim team this year. She has been on the varsity swim team all four years and has volunteered her time for local swim teams as well. Hannah coordinated a club called Feline Friends and has successfully donated over 5,000 cans of cat food to homeless and cats in Southern NH.  She has received two local awards for her volunteer service. She also holds an internship at a local orthopedic office. Hannah’s accomplishments are impeccable and she is a role model to others. What stands out about Hannah is that she is easy to approach, easy to talk to and always willing to lend a helping hand or idea. She is what our school strives for and she has taken full advantage of all the opportunities WHS has offered.   Hannah is a student who doesn’t quit, who is willing to work hard and has the intellectual curiosity and drive to become successful with anything she sets her mind to. Hannah wishes to study neuroscience after high school. It is inspiring to see such a dedicated student who puts her all into learning and puts her education first.

Tom Emrick

Thomas (Tommy) Emrick

He has not only earned the respect of his peers and teammates, but also of the faculty. He has a dynamic range of talents including brilliance of mind, unparalleled academic dedication, and sincere warmth of character that permeate all aspects of his life. His academic prowess has earned him a 4.07 cumulative weighted GPA, which includes the completion of 12 Honors and 5 Advanced Placement courses. One of these Honors courses, Engineering Capstone, allowed Tommy and a peer to take part in the WHS Shark Tank, where their idea was one of only 5 chosen for funding.  Outside of the classroom, Tommy steps up, exceeding the demands and expectations of his peers and coaches. He is a four-year Varsity Football player and was elected as a Captain for his senior year. This past season, he was recognized as one of the Top 50 Players in NH and was selected as an All-Conference Player. Tommy has also participated in Varsity Track for all four years. Tommy has been a part of our Student Athlete Leadership Team, as he portrays great sportsmanship and leadership both on and off the field. He has also given back to the community and his peers by volunteering for JUMP program, where he works with Special Education students that are working on their social and communication skills; and through his job at the Tutoring Center of NH. In closing, I would like to share that, as a junior, Tommy received the Sage College Book Award, as he embodies their motto “To Be, To Do, To Know.”
